CheckitOut! Photo

Frequently
Asked
Questions

1. Are photo sculptures as durable as a "cut out" or "pop out"?
No. CheckitOut! Precision Cut Photo Sculptures are not mounted to foam core, acrylic, wood etc. We cut out extremely fine detail which is actually very fragile. Multiple layers are made up of very small parts glued in position. But don’t worry! When we ship, we pack the items very well so they arrive in perfect condition.

2. Do all photos make good photo sculptures?
No. If we receive a photo that would not work well as a sculpture, we will consult with you before proceeding.

3. Do you accept digital or scanned photos via e-mail?
Absolutely! However, for faster service we suggest that you use our form on the order page designed specifically for uploading your images. It will help lessen problems like email size restrictions prohibiting your file from reaching us.

4. Do you use quality materials for mattes?
Yes. Our Matting is exceptional! Conservation quality, acid and lignin free. As well as alkaline PH buffered.

  • Lignin is a chemical substance found in wood that bonds (glues) cellulose, making wood stronger; paper without lignin is not as strong. However, lignin breaks down over time, turning the paper brown and releasing acids.
  • Acid: Acids actually can make paper better for writing or printing, but they gradually deteriorate or disintegrate paper -- whether used in the paper-making process, leached from other materials, or released during the breakdown of lignin. Over time, acidic paper becomes brittle.
  • Buffering: A "buffer" in paper refers to the addition of alkaline materials into the paper-making process, in order to offset or cancel out the effects of acids.

5. Will the photos fade?
All photos fade over time. However, we slow the process with conservation grade clear UV filtering glass. The ultimate in UV protection!

6. What kind of frames are you providing?
The frame was chosen for it's sophisticated yet simplistic lines reinforcing the 3D experience of our precision cut photo sculpture. Finished in clean contemporary harmonious shades of neutral metallic's.

7. What size image should I upload?
This could get really complicated, I'll try to make it as simple as I can. The guide listed below should help you choose size when printing quality standard size photos on an ink jet printer. Most of the images sent to us have been shot on a 2 Mega Pixel Camera and turned out great as 4 x 6 or 5 x 7 inch Precision Cut Photo Sculptures! Anything larger is usually reserved for larger custom sized Photo Sculptures.

Here's a simple guide:

5 MP = 10 x 13 inches
4 MP =
9 x 12 inches
3 MP = 8 x 10 inches
2 MP = 5 x 7 inches, 4 x 6 inches
